FINANCE

COMMITTEES, ROLES AND JOB DESCRIPTIONS:

Working under the general direction of the Co-Presidents, the Director of Finance acts as the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) for the organization. The Director of Finance works alongside all of the other executives in determining the monetary and logistical needs of the organization. They are able to determine the funding and resource allocation needs of each executive position, initiative and event. The Director of Finance shall develop budget proposals for events and activities in partnership with the events and marketing directors. They have the foundational responsibility of educating and communicating their budgeting strategy, relative to the overarching organizational goals and values, to create alignment and trust with the rest of the executive team. Finally, The Director of Finance shall be responsible for all accounts payable and accounts receivable for the organization, ensuring that all monies are properly tracked, expenses are properly purchased and recorded and reimbursements are paid out in a timely and efficient manner.

MARKETING

DIRECTOR
OF
marketing

Working under the general direction of the Co-Presidents, the Director of Marketing acts as the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for the organization. Leading a team of thinkers and doers, the right Director of Marketing will bring a mix of creativity and business marketing strategy to the position. The Director of Marketing conducts research on behalf of the organization to determine what messaging will resonate most with each targeted student base, as well as how this message should be communicated. The Director of Marketing maintains the overall responsibility for managing workflow for the marketing arm of the organization, including managing a committee and ensuring there is sufficient human and creative capital available to develop lead users for the organization. Finally, the Director of Marketing liaises with all tiers of the organization in an effort to create and compile consistent, cost-effective and impactful messages relative to the organization's initiatives.

MARKETING ASSOCIATE

Working under the general direction of the Co-Presidents and their respective executive members, the Marketing Associate (Committee Member) acts as the organization’s chief advocate for all academic and student life matters. Committee members are responsible for ensuring the needs and goals of the organization and working together to accomplish and deliver value-adding initiatives to the Rotman Commerce community, specifically through marketing-based events. To ensure the organization is constantly achieving its goals within the scope of resources that are available, Marketing committee members shall frequently liaise with the portfolio to ensure competent resource allocation and outward reaching programs.

CREATIVE CONTENT

Working under the general direction of the Co-Presidents, the Director of Creative Content acts as the Chief Creative Officer (CCO) for the organization. Through careful analysis of relevant data and creative thinking, the Director of Creative Content acts as the primary programmer for the group’s creative content, responsible for developing the overall look and feel of media production and branding associated with the organization. The Director of Creative Content is broadly responsible for developing and planning the production of each creative project, but shall work with a committee responsible for overseeing the execution of these logistics in practice. As the primary programmer of the organization’s creative content, the Director of Creative Content is chiefly responsible for the development of integrated content across all of RCEM’s channels from digital, social media, mobile, but also offline and print. 

DIRECTOR
OF CREATIVE CONTENT

Working under the general direction of the Director of Creative Content, Industry Representatives will act as a liaison to said industry segment and serve an integral role in RCEM’s content production. Specific responsibilities belonging to the Representative include but are not limited to the following: Work closely with the entire team to maximize value of segment-related educational and creative content; actively assist and partake in creative content production; Interview industry professionals and sources when needed and instructed by the Director of Creative Content; advise and help direct content creation related to assigned industry segments; occasionally co-write articles for the organization’s online blog/magazine; and support other portfolios on segment-related work, when needed. Representative Roles Include: Media Representative, Lit & Publishing Representative, Music Representative, Film & TV Representative and Video Game Representative.

Working under the general direction of the Director of Creative Content, the Creative Writer will serve an integral role in RCEM’s content production. Specific responsibilities belonging to the Creative Writer include but are not limited to the following: Occasionally write articles for the organization’s online blog/magazine; in charge of creating and writing RCEM’s monthly Newsletter; work closely with the entire creative team to maximize value of content; interview sources when needed and instructed by the Director of Creative Content; may occasionally assist with scriptwriting; develop original written content for the organization. 

CREATIVE WRITER

Working under the general direction of the Director of Creative Content, the Director & Screenwriter will serve an integral role in RCEM’s content production. Specific responsibilities belonging to the Director & Screenwriter include but are not limited to the following: Write scripts and outlines for the organization’s production and creative initiatives (e.g. short films, videos, etc.); conceptualize stories and projects; Work closely with the entire creative team to maximize value of content; stage scenes and direct actors; Control the project’s creative vision; manage shooting of deliverables; identify set locations; key role in casting, production design, and other creative aspects of the production; guide the Videographer, Photographer & Editor during the shoot and in post-production.

EVENTS

DIRECTOR
OF EVENTS

Working under the general direction of the Co-Presidents, the Director of Events acts as the Chief Programming Officer (CPO) for the organization. Through careful analysis of relevant data and statistics, the Director of Events acts as the primary programmer for the group’s events, responsible for developing opportunities that address student learning needs and which align with the organization’s mission and vision. The Director of Events is broadly responsible for planning and executing logistics of each event, but shall work with a committee responsible for overseeing the execution of these logistics in practice. While the purpose of the role is supposed to primarily revolve around developing new or revising existing learning and development opportunities, goal maximization and external outreach, this responsibility relates to the operational focus of the role – events outstanding.

EVENTS ASSOCIATE

Working under the general direction of the Co-Presidents President and their respective executive member, the Events Associate (Committee Member) acts as the organization’s chief advocate for all academic and student life matters. To ensure the organization is constantly achieving its goals within the scope of resources that are available, Events Associates shall frequently liaise with the portfolio to ensure competent resource allocation and outward reaching programs. The Events committee members acts in the primary interest of their Rotman Commerce students. Associates are responsible for ensuring the needs and goals of the organization and working together to accomplish and deliver value-adding initiatives to the Rotman Commerce community, specifically through marketing-based events.

CORPORATE RELATIONS

Working under the general direction of the Co-Presidents, the Director of Corporate Relations acts as the Chief Development Officer (CDO) for the organization. The Director of Corporate Relations is the lead external liaison responsible for leveraging internal and external networks to obtain resources that increase group funding, improve programming quality, and increase student interest, connections and investment to the organization. As the lead external liaison for the group, the Director of Corporate Relations shall be responsible for coordinating all communications with entities that are external to the organization as well as negotiating partnerships on behalf of the organization. As the primary relationship manager for the organization, the Director of Corporate Relations shall actively seek to create value alignment with prospective partners to ensure that partnerships are sustainable over the long-term. As such, the Director of Corporate Relations will implement protocols that govern how partners are selected, what benefits they will be offered, how benefits are valued and how deliverables are met.

Working under the general direction of the Co-Presidents and their respective executive member, the Corporate Relations Manager acts as the organization’s chief advocate for all academic and student life matters. To ensure the organization is constantly achieving its goals within the scope of resources that are available, Corporate Relations Managers shall frequently liaise with the portfolio to ensure competent resource allocation and outward reaching programs. The Corporate Relations Manager acts in the primary interest of their Rotman Commerce students. Corporate Relations Managers are responsible for ensuring the needs and goals of the organization and working together to accomplish and deliver value-adding initiatives to the Rotman Commerce community.
